Cash on delivery
Your customer pays the courier in cash when the parcel arrives. The payment is recorded automatically when the courier confirms the delivery.
Where to find it: Your storefront › Checkout › Payment step Status: Cash on delivery is always available — you don't need to set it up.
How it works
When a customer places an order on your store and chooses "Cash on delivery" at the checkout payment step, they confirm that they will pay the courier in cash when the parcel arrives. The order is created with the full amount marked as due.
When the courier picks up the parcel and delivers it, they collect the cash from the customer. The courier tells Omnikyo how much was collected. Omnikyo records this amount automatically as cash collected on the order, and the due amount drops to zero (or to whatever is left if the customer paid part of it).
If the customer already paid part of the order as an advance (either through bKash or as a manual entry), the courier collects only the remaining balance, not the full order total.
The customer's view at checkout
At the payment step, the customer sees a "Cash on delivery" option with a note that reads "Pay the courier when your order arrives." (unless you have changed the label or note in the theme designer). The customer chooses this option and confirms the order. The order is sent to the courier with the full amount to collect.
You can change the label and note in the designer under the Checkout section, but the payment method itself cannot be switched off.
Recorded vs due amounts
When you create an order (or a customer places one), the system tracks three money amounts:
- Total amount — the order subtotal plus shipping and tax.
- Recorded payment — the sum of any advance payment (paid online or entered manually) plus any cash the courier has collected. This amount is locked once it is greater than zero; you cannot edit it in the order editor.
- Due amount — the money still owed, calculated as total minus recorded payment.
For example, an order for Tk 1,200 with no advance payment starts with Tk 0 recorded and Tk 1,200 due. When the courier confirms they collected Tk 1,200, the order updates to Tk 1,200 recorded and Tk 0 due.
If the customer paid Tk 300 advance by bKash, the order starts with Tk 300 recorded, Tk 900 due. The courier then collects Tk 900 (not Tk 1,200), and the order settles with Tk 1,200 recorded and Tk 0 due.
The tolerance rule
The system allows a small difference of up to approximately 1 paisa (Tk 0.009) between the order total and the recorded amount, to account for rounding in exchange rates or discounts. This means an order might show Tk 0 due even if collected cash is slightly less.
What happens if the courier doesn't collect the full amount
If the customer refuses to pay or the courier collects only part of the amount, the due amount stays above zero. You see this on the order and can follow up: send the customer a payment link to request the remaining balance online, or contact them to arrange another collection.
If the customer paid some cash to the courier and some online (through a payment link), both amounts are recorded and the due amount is the difference.
Rules and limits
The courier can never be instructed to collect more than the due amount. If you record an advance payment or reduce the order total, the system automatically tells the courier the new collection amount.
If you edit the order total (adding a discount, changing the shipping fee, or adjusting the price), the payment fields stay locked and cannot be changed. The due amount recalculates based on the new total.
Questions people ask
Can a customer pay half cash and half bKash?
Yes. A customer can choose cash on delivery at checkout (the courier will collect something), and you can send them a payment link later requesting an advance or specific amount. If they pay via the link, the recorded payment goes up and the due amount drops. The courier then collects only what is left.
What if the courier says the customer isn't home?
If the courier cannot deliver, you will see the parcel status update to reflect this (for example, Out for delivery or Failed attempt). The order's due amount stays the same. You can contact the customer, arrange a new delivery attempt, or ask them to pay online via a payment link.
Can I record a cash payment manually?
Yes. When you edit an order or create one in the New Order modal, you can enter a Cash collected amount before saving. This will reduce the due amount immediately.
Is cash collected the same as the courier's commission?
No. Cash collected is the money the customer paid to the courier. The courier's commission is what you pay the courier for delivery — these are separate. Omnikyo tracks cash collection, not courier commissions (commissions are handled directly with the courier or through Pathao/Steadfast billing).
