Where to find it: Designer › Sections sidebar

Where did my section go?

Your section is in the Parked sections list in Theme settings. Sections appear there when you switch theme packs and the new pack cannot render that section type.

To find it:

  1. In the designer, click the paintbrush icon (Theme settings) in the top-left sidebar toggle.
  2. Scroll down to the Theme pack card.
  3. Under the pack cards, you should see Archived sections (if any are parked).
  4. Click Restore next to your section to bring it back to the page.

If the section does not appear there, check the template it was on — switching templates or reloading the designer can move the view.

The header and footer are singletons — required parts of every page. Deleting them would leave the page with no navigation or branding, so the designer does not allow it.

To hide them from shoppers:

  1. Select the Header or Footer section in the outline.
  2. In the right panel, open the Page settings tab (the gear icon on the template band).
  3. Uncheck Header or Footer in the Show on this page section.

The section is still there (in the theme), but the page does not render it. You can always turn it back on for another page.

Why doesn't the page picker show all my pages?

The page picker (the dropdown at the top of the outline showing "Home page", "Product page", etc.) lists template names from your theme document, not every page on your store.

The pages listed are:

  • Core templates — Home, Product, Collection, Search, Cart, Checkout, Confirmation, Blog, Article, Not Found, Password, Gift Card
  • Custom pages you created in the designer (Pages dialog)
  • Landing pages you created from the Pages dialog

Content pages on your store (created in Store › Pages) do not appear in the designer — they are built separately.

To create a custom page or landing page that shoppers can link to:

  1. Open the store/theme menu (centre-top) and click Pages.
  2. Click the Add page button or New page option.
  3. Choose a preset or start blank.
  4. The new page appears in the template picker.

Every page template has exactly one header and one footer section. They are singletons — required, fixed positions. You cannot add more than one.

If you want different navigation on different pages, edit the menu (in Theme settings › Menus) instead of the header section. The same menu can appear on every page with the same items, or you can create different menus and swap which one the header points to.

What is the block nesting depth limit?

Blocks can nest up to 8 levels deep. Each level is either a block inside a group, or a group inside another group.

Example:

  • Level 1: Image block (leaf)
  • Level 2: Group containing the image
  • Level 3: Another group containing the first group
  • Levels 4–8: More nested groups

The editor will not let you drag a group deeper than 8 levels. Most designs do not need more than 2–3 levels.

What sections are required on every page?

You can build a page with as few or as many sections as you want. No sections are strictly required.

The only fixed parts are:

  • Header and Footer — singletons that appear on every page template. You can toggle them off per page if you want to hide them from shoppers.
  • Core templates (Home, Product, Collection, Search, Cart, Checkout, Confirmation) — these ship with your theme and cannot be deleted, but you can edit their sections.

You can add, remove and reorder sections freely on any page. If a page is blank when a shopper visits it, they see just the header and footer.

Can I move a section from one page to another?

No — sections live on one page template only. If you want the same section on another page, duplicate it (right-click in the outline, choose Duplicate), and it will become a separate section on that page.

Sections on different pages do not share settings. If you change colours or text on the Home page header, the Product page header is not affected.

Why does a section show "Unrenderable" or fail to render?

A section type exists in the theme pack definition but the theme pack cannot display it on the current page template.

Example: A Horizon-specific section might not render on a non-Horizon theme, or a landing-page section is not allowed on the product template.

To fix it:

  1. Delete the section and add a valid one.
  2. Or switch theme packs to one that can render it (if it is a pack-specific section).

What does "Singleton" mean?

A singleton is a section that appears in a fixed position and there can be only one of it. The header and footer are singletons — every page has exactly one, in the same position, on every page.

Singletons cannot be moved, duplicated, or deleted — you can only edit their settings. Non-singleton sections can be reordered, duplicated and removed.

Can I rename a section?

Yes. Double-click the section name in the outline, type a new name (up to 120 characters), and press Enter. The new name appears only in the outline — it does not change the section type label.

Use meaningful names like "Promo banner" or "Customer logos" to keep the outline readable.

Can I undo theme changes?

Yes — the undo stack tracks all edits (section edits, theme settings, block changes, etc.) within the same editor session. Click the undo icon (top-left) or press Ctrl/Cmd+Z. Undo works until you close the editor.

To undo across sessions, use Version history (top-center store/theme menu).

How many sections can I add to a page?

You can add as many sections as you want — no hard limit. The editor will warn you if a page gets too large, because too many sections can slow down the page on mobile. For best performance, aim for 10–20 sections per page.

Can I hide a section from just mobile or just desktop?

No — a section is either hidden or shown on all screen sizes. You cannot hide it on mobile only. However, you can:

  • Use a different page layout on mobile (the designer shows mobile and desktop preview modes, and some theme pack settings apply only to phones).
  • Add a separate page for mobile users (most themes handle this automatically).

Can I export or import a section?

No — sections exist only within a theme. You cannot move them between stores.

To use a section design on another store, rebuild it manually, or ask OmniAI to build it for you.

What happens if I delete a section by mistake?

The undo stack restores it (Ctrl/Cmd+Z or click the undo button in the top-left). If you have already saved and closed the editor, you can use Version history (top-center store/theme menu) to restore an earlier save point.

Can I copy a section to a different page?

You can duplicate a section on the same page (right-click, choose Duplicate). To have a similar section on a different page, duplicate it there too, but they will not be linked — editing one does not change the other.

How do I use page-specific theme colours?

  1. Select the page you want to customize (template picker at the top of the outline).
  2. Click the Page settings gear icon on the template band.
  3. Under Page theme, change the Colour scheme select or edit individual token overrides.
  4. These changes apply only to that page.

To reset page-specific changes, click Reset page theme.

What does "Section locked" or "Fixed position" mean?

Some sections or blocks are locked (a lock icon appears next to them in the outline). Locked sections cannot be moved, duplicated, or deleted — only their settings can be changed. These are typically header/footer blocks that the theme pins in place for consistency.

You can hide a locked section or edit its content and settings, but you cannot move it.
