Gross profit and net profit on the Dashboard
Gross profit is money left after you pay for the products you sold. Net profit is what is left after you also pay for ads. The dashboard does not subtract expenses like rent or salaries.

Gross profit
Gross profit is what you make from selling products before ads.
Formula: Gross profit = (Sales − Delivery fees) − Product cost
Delivery fees are subtracted because customers paid you the delivery fee, but you must hand it to the courier. It is not yours to keep. So the calculation subtracts it first.
Product cost is subtracted because if you paid Tk 300 to buy or make a item and sold it for Tk 500, you made Tk 200 profit on that item, not Tk 500.
Worked example
You sold 10 items today.
- Sales total (what customers paid): Tk 5,000
- Delivery fees customers paid you: Tk 500 (you owe this to the courier)
- Product cost (what the 10 items cost you): Tk 2,500
Gross profit = (5,000 − 500) − 2,500 = Tk 2,000
Gross margin = 2,000 ÷ 4,500 = 44%
(The denominator is Gross revenue = Sales − Delivery fees.)
Net profit
Net profit is what you made after also paying for ads.
Formula: Net profit = Gross profit − Ad spend
This is closer to what you actually keep, because ads are a real, unavoidable cost. But the dashboard still does not subtract fixed costs like rent, salaries or utilities — those are handled separately in the Expenses area and the Financials report.
Worked example
From the example above, your Gross profit was Tk 2,000.
If you spent Tk 800 on Meta ads today to get those 10 orders:
Net profit = 2,000 − 800 = Tk 1,200
Net margin = 1,200 ÷ 5,000 = 24%
(The denominator is Sales, including the delivery fees.)
When cost price is missing
A product with no cost price recorded counts as zero cost. This inflates profit.
Example: You enter no cost price for a product. The dashboard then thinks you paid Tk 0 to make it, and counts the full sale price as gross profit. If you sell one unit for Tk 500 with no cost price, the dashboard shows Tk 500 gross profit instead of the real profit (say, Tk 200). This error grows with every order.
Fix: Open the product in Products, set the Cost price field, and save. The dashboard recalculates on the next refresh. The error also corrects itself over time as new orders go in with the cost price; old orders with missing cost prices on their lines are fixed only if you edit the order and re-save it.
What the Dashboard does not subtract
The dashboard figures leave out:
- Expenses (rent, salaries, utilities, packaging, phone plan) — these are in the Expenses area and the Financials report.
- Courier service fees to Pathao or Steadfast — these are separate from the delivery fee the customer paid you. They are in the Fulfilment report.
- Returns — a returned item stays in the Sales total, even though you may have issued a refund.
- Tax on your sales (VAT/GST) — this is a business accounting decision.
- Discounts — a discount given to a customer lowers the order total, and that lower total is what goes into Sales.
These are not missing from the dashboard by accident; they are handled differently in other parts of Omnikyo or left to your own accounting.
Dashboard profit vs real profit
The dashboard profit is useful for spotting trends in orders and ads, but it is not your real P&L. For tax filing or detailed business analysis, use the Financials report, which includes Expenses.
