Discounts

Create discount codes that shoppers enter at checkout, or automatic discounts that apply without a code. Set the discount amount, collection rules, usage limits and dates.

Where to find it: Sidebar › Website › Online store › Discounts Who can do it: Anyone with the page.storefront permission. Status: This feature is gated by a platform setting. If Discounts is not visible in the sidebar, contact your coordinator to enable it.

Before you start

Discounts are offered at checkout if the store is live (a published theme and storefront visibility on). A store that is hidden or has no published theme does not show discounts to shoppers, but you can still create them in the dashboard. A discount code that fails validation (for example, it expired or reached its usage limit) causes the order to fail — shoppers see an error message.

Create a discount code

  1. Open Discounts and click Create discount.
  2. Click the Code button to choose the code kind (the other option is Automatic).
  3. Enter a Code — for example, SUMMER10. Codes can be up to 80 characters. You can use uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers; they are converted to lowercase for storage but kept as you typed them for display.
  4. Enter a Title — something like "Summer sale" (max 120 characters). This is for you to find the discount later; shoppers do not see it.
  5. Choose a Type: Percentage off (shoppers get a percentage discount), Fixed amount off (shoppers get a specific Taka amount), or Free delivery (the delivery fee is waived).
  6. If you chose percentage or fixed amount, enter the value. Percentages range from 0 to 100.
  7. (Optional) Minimum subtotal — shoppers only get this discount if their cart subtotal (before delivery) is at least this amount.
  8. (Optional) Collection slugs — restrict the discount to items in one or more collections. Enter the collection slugs separated by commas (for example, perfume, candles). Leave empty to apply to all products.
  9. (Optional) Usage limit — how many times the code can be used before it stops working. Leave empty for unlimited uses.
  10. (Optional) Starts at and Ends at — dates and times when the code is active. Leave both empty to run forever.
  11. Leave Status as Active so the code works immediately. Save to finish.

When the code is created, it appears in your list as Active. Shoppers can enter it at checkout.

Create an automatic discount

  1. Open Discounts and click Create discount.
  2. Click the Automatic button to choose the automatic kind.
  3. Enter a Title (for you only) — for example, "Summer sale automatic".
  4. Choose a Type: Percentage off, Fixed amount off, or Free delivery.
  5. Fill in the value, minimum subtotal, collection slugs, usage limit and dates the same way as code discounts.
  6. Leave Status as Active.
  7. Save to finish.

Automatic discounts apply without a code. When a shopper checks out with no code, the best eligible automatic discount applies (the one that saves the most money). If a shopper enters a code, the code takes over and automatic discounts are ignored.

How discounts work at checkout

One discount applies per order. If a shopper enters a code:

  • A valid code wins and is used, even if an automatic discount would save more money.
  • An invalid or expired code causes the order to fail with an error message like "Discount code not found" or "This code has expired".
  • A code that runs out of uses mid-checkout fails the order.

If no code is entered:

  • Only one automatic discount applies — the one that saves the most money (fixed-amount discounts are compared against each other first; free-delivery only applies if no fixed discount is better).

Free delivery always takes lowest priority: a code can apply and still waive delivery, but an automatic free-delivery discount applies only when no money-off discount is eligible.

Discount problems

Feature is hidden

If Discounts is not visible in the sidebar, the feature is not enabled for your store. Contact your coordinator to enable the platform feature discounts.

Code not found

The shopper entered a code that doesn't exist or was already deleted. You may want to email the shopper or post the correct code.

Code is ineligible

The code exists but doesn't apply to the cart — for example:

  • The code is restricted to a collection, but the cart contains only items outside that collection.
  • The cart subtotal is below the minimum.
  • The code is disabled or expired.

The shopper sees "This code does not apply to your cart" or similar.

Usage limit reached

The code has been used the maximum number of times. If a shopper tries to use it, they see "This code has reached its usage limit". Increase the limit or create a new code. Each use is locked in as the order is created.

Code is disabled

You set the discount Status to Disabled. Enable it by opening the discount and changing the status back to Active.

Rate limit

The storefront discount validation API allows 30 attempts per minute from any single IP address per store. If shoppers or bots try to validate more codes than this, the request is rate-limited and they see "Too many attempts. Please wait a moment and try again."

Discounts reference — statuses and types

Discount status (what you set):

  • Active — the discount is live and works at checkout.
  • Disabled — you manually turned the discount off. It does not apply.
  • Expired — you labeled the discount as expired. It does not apply at checkout (even if the end date hasn't passed). The engine also rejects discounts whose Ends at date is in the past, regardless of the status you set.

Discount type:

  • Percentage off — the discount is a percentage of the eligible cart subtotal (0–100%; amounts below 1% are rounded up to the nearest paisa).
  • Fixed amount off — the discount is a fixed amount in Taka. It cannot exceed the cart subtotal or the eligible item subtotal.
  • Free delivery — the delivery fee is waived. The discount amount is zero.

Discount kind:

  • Code — shoppers enter a code at checkout. One code per order. The code is case-insensitive and can be up to 80 characters.
  • Automatic — no code needed. The discount applies automatically if eligible. Only the best automatic discount applies.
