Turn on two-step verification
Two-step verification adds a second layer of security. After your password, you also enter a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. If someone learns your password, they still cannot get in.
Where to find it: Sidebar › Settings › Profile and security › Two-step verification section
Before you start
You need an authenticator app on your phone. Three apps that work: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. Download any one from your phone's app store.
Set up an authenticator app
- Open the dashboard and go to Settings › Profile and security.
- Find the Two-step verification section. The status shows Off.
- Select Set up (next to Authenticator app).
- You see a QR code and a long setup key (you can copy it with the Copy button).
- Open your authenticator app. Scan the QR code, or type the setup key by hand.
- The app shows a 6-digit code that changes every few seconds.
- Enter that code in the Enter the 6-digit code it shows field.
- Select Turn on.
Omnikyo shows "Two-step verification is on" and "You'll be asked for a code when you sign in." The status in the section now reads On.
Error: "That code didn't match"
Check the time on your phone. Authenticator codes are time-based — if your phone's clock is wrong, the code will not match. Tap the newest code in your authenticator app.
Error: "This browser can't use passkeys"
This error means your browser does not support passkeys yet. Try a recent Chrome, Safari, or Edge. (This error is about passkeys, not two-step verification; you can ignore it for two-step.)
Add a backup authenticator
A backup authenticator is a second phone (or app on a different device) that can also generate codes. If you lose your main phone, you can still sign in using the backup.
- In Two-step verification, select Add a backup (it only shows if you have one authenticator set up already).
- Scan the QR code or type the key into a second authenticator app on a different phone.
- Enter the code from the second app.
- Select Turn on.
Omnikyo shows "Two-step verification is on" and lists both authenticators.
Remove an authenticator
- In Two-step verification, find the authenticator you want to remove.
- Select Remove.
- A confirmation asks:
- If it is your last authenticator: "Turn off two-step verification?" (Signing in will only need your password again.)
- If you have a backup: "Remove this authenticator?" (Codes from it will stop working.)
- Select Turn off or Remove to confirm.
If you are removing a verified authenticator, Omnikyo may ask you to enter a code from an existing authenticator first.
Omnikyo shows "Two-step verification is off" or "Authenticator removed".
What "turning off" means
If you remove your last (or only) authenticator, two-step verification turns off. You then only need your password to sign in. You can set it up again anytime.
Careful: Two-step is strong security. Only turn it off if you are sure.
When your business requires two-step
An owner can turn on a rule that requires all team members to use two-step verification. If you are on a team like that and do not have two-step set up yet, you will be asked to set it up the first time you sign in after the rule is turned on.
