How returns put stock back
When a customer returns a parcel, the items move through a return workflow and your stock is restored when you mark the return as received.

The return workflow
A return starts when you create one from a delivered order. The order items enter a Return Pending state — they are held aside, not counted toward your available stock anymore. The return itself is marked as in transit. No stock adjustment happens yet.
When the parcel arrives and you confirm receipt, you press Mark Received & Restock. The return changes to Received. At that moment, the stock quantity is added back to the location where that order was fulfilled.
Which location gets the stock back
Stock is restored to the same location that the original order used for fulfillment. If the order was fulfilled from your Default warehouse, the returned stock goes back to Default. If you chose a different location on that order, returned stock goes there.
Partial returns and variants
When you return only some units of an item, only those units are restocked. For example, if a customer ordered 5 T-shirts and returns 2, you restock 2 units and 3 stay marked as delivered.
If a product has variants, each variant's return is tracked and restocked separately. A return of variant A does not affect variant B.
No double-counting when items are partially returned
The system prevents counting stock twice. When part of an order is returned:
- The delivered quantity on that order item is adjusted down.
- Only the unreturned portion stays in "delivered" state.
- The returned portion moves to "returned" and adds back to stock.
This happens automatically — you do not choose the amounts.
What the return log shows
When you mark a return as received, an entry appears in that product's stock history with the change type Return Received. The note includes the return case number (e.g., #1-R1).
Cancelling a return before receipt
If you cancel a return while it is still in in transit state, the items return to their previous delivered state and no stock is added or removed.
Questions people ask
Can stock go negative from a return?
No. The system validates that you are returning a quantity that was actually delivered. A return cannot create negative stock.
What if I mark received but the parcel never actually arrived?
The stock is added immediately when you press Mark Received & Restock. If the parcel later goes missing, you can manually remove the stock again using an adjust or removal action. There is no automated reversal.
Does the return status change automatically when Pathao or Steadfast says "Returned"?
The return case is separate from the courier parcel status. Courier updates do not automatically move the return to Received. You must explicitly press Mark Received & Restock in the order detail.
