Low stock, out of stock and stock value

Omnikyo divides your stock into three states based on Available units, and calculates stock value from product cost prices.

বাংলায়: স্টক তিনটা অবস্থায় পড়ে — Out of stock, Low stock, Normal। কোনো পণ্যের Available শূন্য বা নেগেটিভ হলে Out of stock, ১ থেকে ৫ পর্যন্ত হলে Low stock। Stock value হল সব পণ্যের on hand (কিন্তু ০ এর নিচে যায় না) কে তার cost price দিয়ে গুণ করে যোগ করা।

Low stock and out of stock

The Inventory page divides your stock into these states (based on Available = On hand − Reserved − Unavailable):

  • Out of stock — 0 or fewer units Available. An amber Out tag appears in the row. The summary tile shows the count. You cannot sell these items, but orders can still be created and then moved to negative stock with Proceed Anyway.
  • Low stock — 1 to 5 units Available. An amber Low tag appears. The summary tile shows the count with the label "5 or fewer available". You can still sell them, but they will run out soon.
  • Normal stock — 6 or more units Available. No tag.

The low-stock threshold is fixed at 5 units. There is no setting to change it, and no reorder point or alert system. You can only filter by Out of stock and Low stock on the Inventory page.

Oversold vs. out of stock

Oversold and Out of stock are different:

  • Oversold — On hand is below 0 (meaning you have shipped more than you had). Found with the Oversold filter or by sorting by On hand.
  • Out of stock — Available is 0 or below (On hand minus Reserved minus Unavailable). Found with the Out of stock pill or status tag.

An order that is fully reserved but not yet shipped shows Available as 0 (out of stock) even though On hand is positive and not oversold.

Stock value

The Stock value tile in the Inventory summary shows the worth of all your stock at cost price for the selected location. It is calculated as:

Stock value = sum of (On hand × cost price for each product, but never counting negatives)

  • Only products with a cost price above 0 are counted.
  • For each product, Omnikyo takes the On hand quantity (but treats any negative as 0 for the calculation), multiplies it by the cost price per unit, and adds it to the total.
  • A product with 0 cost price (or no cost set) is not counted and marked "without a cost" in the summary.
  • The summary shows: "At cost" (the total for the selected location), then on a second line "At cost · N without a cost" if there are products with no cost price.

Why the cost price matters

Without a cost price, you cannot calculate how much money your inventory is tied up in. Setting a cost price on every product lets you track:

  • How much cash you have sitting on shelves.
  • Which locations or products are expensive to hold.
  • Your actual profit when stock sells (costs affect your gross profit figures).

Set cost prices in the product editor.

Questions people ask

Can I change the low-stock threshold from 5 to 10?

No, the threshold is fixed at 5. There is no setting to change it. If you want to track different thresholds, use the Oversold, Has reserved units, and Has unavailable units filters on the Inventory page instead.

What does "without a cost" mean?

A product that has no cost price set, or a cost price of 0. These products still count in On hand and Available, but they do not contribute to the Stock value total. Set a cost price on the product (in the product editor, Inventory card) so stock value includes them.

If I set a cost price, does it affect my selling price?

No. The cost price is separate from the selling price. It is used only to calculate stock value and your profit margins in Reports.

Does stock value include damaged units?

No. Stock value is calculated only from On hand, not from Unavailable (damaged). If you have Tk 100 on hand at Tk 5 per unit and Tk 20 damaged at Tk 5 per unit, stock value is Tk 500 (100 × 5), not Tk 600.
