The spreadsheet bulk editor
The bulk editor is a Shopify-style spreadsheet. Select columns to show, edit cells by clicking, use autofill and paste, undo changes, and save only the fields you changed.

Where to find it: Products list → select one or more products → Bulk edit button
Opening the editor
Click Bulk edit after selecting products. The editor opens as a full-screen overlay and loads the selected products into the grid. A loading skeleton appears while data is fetched. If the load fails, a message appears with a back link.
The toolbar
At the top you see:
- ← Back link (unsaved edits are lost when you close — there is no warning)
- Editing N product(s) · M unsaved change(s) — updates as you edit
- Discard button (disabled until you make a change; clears all edits and resets the grid)
- Save button (disabled until something changes; "Saving…" while the request runs)
- ✕ close button (closes the editor; edits are kept in the grid state only while mounted)
Backdrop click also closes the editor.
Search and filter rows
The Search products box at the left filters the grid by product name. This is handy when editing a large selection.
Undo and redo
Undo (⌘Z) and Redo (⌘⇧Z) buttons let you reverse cell edits. Each cell keeps its own edit history, so you can undo individual changes. Clear the search box or change a column to keep the history from being reset.
Choose which columns to show
Click the Columns button to open the column selector. It shows every available column grouped into sections: General (title, description, status, source, category, product type, vendor, tags, collections), Pricing (price, compare-at, cost), Inventory (SKU, barcode, on-hand, reserved, available, damaged), Shipping (weight), SEO, Media, Variants (one per option, like "Size"), Metafields (custom fields), and in multi-location mode Quantities by location (one "On hand" and "Available" per location).
Inside the panel you can:
- Click a column name to toggle it on/off
- Show all to enable every column
- Hide all to show only the product title (required)
- Reset to restore the default set
The Product title column cannot be hidden.
Editing cells
Click any cell to edit it. Depending on the column type you will see:
- Text input — title, description, vendor, product type
- Number input — price, cost, weight, on-hand stock
- Select dropdown — status (Active/Draft/Archived), source (Manual/Shopify), category
- URL input — image link
Press Tab to move to the next cell, Shift+Tab to move back. Enter saves the cell and moves down; Escape cancels the edit and reverts to the old value.
Read-only cells (like Reserved or Available) cannot be edited. Tags and Collections columns are visible but not editable (edit them in the full product editor or Catalog instead).
Variant rows
Variant children appear indented under their parent. Parent rows lock certain product-level fields (description, category, tags, collections) so edits apply to the whole parent. Variant rows lock price, cost, and stock fields so only per-variant values are edited. The Reserved and Available columns are always read-only.
Variant option columns (e.g., "Size") show the variant value but cannot be edited — change options in the full editor.
Multi-location stock columns
If you have 2+ locations, a single On hand stock column is replaced by per-location columns: "{LOCATION CODE} · On hand", "· Available", "· Damaged". The default location is shown by default; others are hidden until you unhide them in the Columns panel. A Total available column sums available stock across all locations — it is read-only.
Autofill drag
To copy a cell down a column, select it and drag the small handle at the bottom-right corner. For text values, it copies the value to all selected rows below. For numeric values with multiple rows selected, it creates a linear series — e.g. if you have "100" in one cell and "150" in the next, dragging fills "200", "250", etc.
Paste from clipboard
Copy tab-separated values (e.g. from Excel or Google Sheets) and paste them into any cell. The paste fills across and down. Empty cells are skipped.
Marking a cell as changed
Edited cells turn blue. The Unsaved changes counter at the top updates in real time.
Validation and errors
When you save, every cell is checked for valid content:
- Product title — must not be empty
- Base price / Compare-at price / Cost per item — must be numbers ≥ 0
- Stock / Damaged — must be whole numbers ≥ 0
- Weight — must be ≥ 0
- Other fields have type-specific rules
If any cell fails, a toast shows "Fix N validation error(s) before saving" and the invalid cells are marked with a red border. Fix them and try saving again.
Saving changes
Click Save. Only changed cells are sent to the server — untouched columns are left alone so you do not accidentally overwrite data from other users.
For variant stock or per-location columns, separate RPC calls handle the inventory updates after the product data is saved.
Success shows "Bulk edits saved" and the editor closes. On failure, a toast shows "Save failed" with details per product (tagged by SKU).
Read-only fields
Some bulk editor columns cannot be edited because they are managed elsewhere or calculated automatically:
- Reserved — managed on the Inventory page
- Available — calculated automatically
- Total available — in multi-location mode, sums all locations
- Tags and Collections — edit in the full product editor
Questions people ask
Can I paste data from Excel?
Yes. Copy the cells (tab-separated), click into the grid, and paste. If the columns match, the data fills in. Empty cells are skipped.
What happens if I close without saving?
Your edits are lost. The editor does not warn you — close carefully.
Does editing in bulk editor affect prices on my storefront instantly?
Yes. When you save, the products and storefront catalog refresh immediately.
Can I edit tags or collections in the bulk editor?
Tags and collections columns are visible but not editable. Edit them in the full product editor or in Catalog. This is by design to keep the bulk editor focused on core data.
